MEDITATION
Hold It Back
Proverbs 25:28 "Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self control."NIV
Point to ponder on: A life without self control is a life without self defence.
Cities in the bible days were fortified with walls as security measures. The city like Jericho was an example of such. When foreigners attacked such city, they had to besiege the city before they could penetrate into it. Now let us imagine with a vivid example of what we have in my noble country Nigeria where we share borders with neighbouring countries and people can stroll in and out without caution because only boundary line determines the border but no walls. Therefore, bandits can come at will from neighbouring countries and perpetrate evil and return back without being caught. This is a typical example of anyone without self control, such is like a city that is 100% vulnerable to attacks and danger. If the self is not put under control it will prevent our spirit from doing the will of God. Our soul is the consciousness of our body and this is the real self. It is influenced by what we see, smell, taste, touch and feel. Therefore, when the self is not under control, it is vulnerable, exposed to attacks and easily enticed to sin. Anger, pride, gossip, immorality are agents of self. However, it is now easy for us to put self under control because we have the Holy Spirit within us and one of the nine graces of the fruit of the Holy Spirit is self control. But we can only activate this when we work in constant communion or fellowship with the Holy Spirit, such that owing to the consistent fellowship it becomes easy without any human effort to put self (activities of the flesh) under control. If we must follow God and serve Him unreservedly, we need the help of the Holy Spirit to daily put 'self' under control that God might be glorified within us.
It takes control over self to overcome all the works of the flesh mentioned in Gal.5: 19-21.Let us deepen our fellowship with the Holy Spirit and walk in the Spirit(living by the word) so that we can put to death the deeds of the flesh.
In this new month, the Lord will order your steps, help you put self under control and make you achieve success in your endeavours in Jesus name.
Good morning. Enjoy His grace.
I celebrate you.
David, Johnson
